Specialising in oversized hardwood Furniture.

Ethics and quality

I pride myself on ethically sourced timber, ensuring that all my logs are suitable for purpose and come from trees removed due to deterioration from storms and age related deterioration.

....For many years some of Britains oldest and most notable trees have often be left to rot into the ground or reduced to firewood after their decline; this mostly due to the financial risks and timeframes associated with processing large logs into useable indoor furniture.

Built to last:

Aside from the aesthetics: everything I build is done with the intention that it will still be fit for purpose centuries after I build it.
Custom made, slotted C-channel is fitted to the underside of the table using the highest quality inserts to allow for seasonal expansion and contraction of the wood.
There is also the option for dutchman's ("bow ties") to be added to the top surface or hidden below.

What can we offer?

Some of my most popular items are:
*Coffee tables
*Dining tables ranging from 4-16 seaters
*Office desks
*kitchen worktops, chopping & serving board
*wall-art and sculptures.

These are just some of the most common commissions and sales however the use of hardwood timber for furniture and interior design is borderline unlimited.  (Please contact for a consultation on any ideas you may have.)

Why use Oversized?

Besides the ethical side of using trees that have exceeded their lifecycle; the size, shape and age produces grain patterns that cannot be matched by using smaller, jointed together timbers and every board we cut is completely unique to itself.

 The Oversized Timber Company:

The Oversized Timber Company was established in 2019 and was original set up with the sole purpose of processing, drying and sale of oversized timber from ancient, notable and veteran windblown trees that are no longer a suitable means of carbon sequestration.

While in the UK we do our very best to make sure that veteran trees dominate our landscape for years to come, we cannot protect them from certain elements that they are exposed too and when these trees fall into a state of no recovery they are felled/extracted due relevant health and safety concerns.
Due to their size they are often too large and in many cases too deteriorated to be viable to the commercial hardwood industry and are often processed into firewood due to handling and processing costs of milling such a large stem.

Recent developments:
Over the last 18 months I have moved to a workshop that has been specifically designed for the purpose of manufacturing furniture from such large timbers as well as the construction of a purpose made kiln drying system.
I also increased my stock of timbers in the air drying process of which some are as large as 1.8m wide, over 4m in length and over 600 years old.
All my furniture is produced from UK grown trees which have been sourced from some of our most prestigious country estates.

Species range:
While most of my stock is predominantly oversized oak I do keep a large selection of Elm, Ash, Beech and oak in various lengths and widths suitable for kitchens, cabinetry and traditional jointed furniture.
